Itinerary for a day in Pisa

Tour Pisa - Do not miss

Leaving the Hotel Moderno advice to walk right along the roads leading to the Old Station Leopolda, one of the first railway station built in Italy, datata1844, by the Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany. Front of the Leopolda Station stands the Scotto Garden or New Fort, originally a courtyard garden of the noble Family Scotto, are an integral part of the remains of the Citadel or Fortress New Sangallo, the first fort built by the Florentines in 1406 and then revisited by Giuliano da Sangallo the second military requirements in 1509. Leaving the Garden there are two possibilities: either continue to Lungarno Galilei, where you can admire the beautiful Church of St. Sepulchre, with its curious octagonal shape and beautiful historic buildings overlooking the Arno River, or take Via San Martino, the heart of the neighborhood of Cecile, the heroine who saved Pisa Pisa from the attack of the Saracens in 1004. This road is full of narrow lanes and medieval flavor willing to "comb", one of which leads to the church of St. Sepulchre aforementioned. Returning along the Arno to continue for Lungarno Gambacorti where is located the church of Santa Cristina, where in 1375 St. Catherine of Siena received the stigmata, and where we find the little gem of Pisa, the Church of Santa Maria del Spina. Erected in 1230, the church was rebuilt in 1323 to accommodate a plug of the Crown of Christ, which remains inside the reliquary of 1534, you can admire the Gothic exterior with embroidery and two beautiful roses plants. Continuing along Lungarno Sonnino to get to the beautiful church of San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno or Old Cathedral, whose forehead is part Romanesque loggias between the green of the trees in the driveway. A frame of this beautiful church is the Old Citadel, south of the Arno, formed by the Porta a Mare and the Bastion Stampace, scene of many battles fought by the Pisans against Florence in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. In front we have the Citadel, which is reached by crossing the bridge of the same name. This structure was erected by the Florentines at the old Arsenal Medici, commissioned by Cosimo I in the sixteenth century. Guelph and is dominated by the Tower, as opposed to the Ghibellines, deployment of which the Pisans were members before they were conquered by the Guelphs fiorentini.Da Lungarno Simonelli you get into Via Roma, where you can admire the church tower of St. Nicholas, located adjacent Via Santa Maria and in the example of Romanesque Pisano, the Domus Galilean and the Botanical Gardens. Moved here in 1591, the garden is the oldest in Europe and it was provided, until the eighteenth century, a foundry for the preparation of medicaments of herbs.

Once you arrive at Via Roma wonder at what is one of the prettiest squares in the world: Pizza dei Miracoli or Piazza del Duomo .

After enjoying this magnificent show, we walk the Via Santa Maria, high medieval walls of the ancient route that, with enlargement of 1100 became the focal axis of the city and its marketplace. Through Via Dei Mille you enter the Piazza dei Cavalieri , the heart of Pisa Maritime Republic, home of Scuol Normale Superiore and where is the Town Clock and Count Ugolino. Leaving this place full of history and taking away U.Dini you arrive in Borgo Strait, medieval heart of Pisa, and now, along with Italy Course, shopping heart of Pisa. If you have a little 'time to spend it in a nice board walk through the various narrow streets and medieval chiassatelli that constitute it, thus arriving at Piazza delle Vettovaglie where stood the sixteenth-century fruit and vegetable market. Once you cross the charming village Strait Bridge Half Bridge or Old Palace, and we are faced with Gambacorta, current City Hall, and the Lodges of Banks. It starts here Course Italy, another shopping street, which ends in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, which is opposite the train station. Looking at it and taking the only road on the left takes you back to the Hotel Moderno.
